The relationship between the English and  Bordeaux  wine goes back hundreds of years. In the 12th century the popularity of Bordeaux wines in England increased dramatically following the marriage of King Henry II and Alienor d’Aquitaine. The marriage made the province of Aquitaine English territory, and therefore the majority of Bordeaux claret was exported to England. The citizenry of Bordeaux worked diligently to promote and foster their relationship with England. In 1205, the Spanish laid claim to Aquitaine and put Bordeaux under siege. The village was able to withstand the attack and King John rewarded the Bourgeois with orders for wine in excess of 120 tons. In 1224, King Louis VIII of France attempted to purge the English from French soil and was halted in his advance in the town of Bordeaux. In the aftermath Bordeaux received privileged access to the English market through London, and their exports to the market soon dwarfed the production from other French wine making regions.

Inspired by the great British statesman who used Conway Stewart pens during WW II, the Conway Stewart Churchill is in every way an impressive pen, and not least because of its size. Strikingly elegant, the Churchill has been Conway Stewart’s flagship pen for many years.

Each fountain pen is housed in an original Conway Stewart black leatherette presentation box which doubles as an elegant desk display, and comes complete with Certificate of Authenticity, Conway Stewart User Guide and a special anti-tarnish polishing cloth to keep your pen in sparkling condition.
