The Dartmoor acrylic resin is a rich peaty brown, almost black color, flecked with bracken. For those who are unfamiliar with the color, it is named after the upland area of Devon in South West England , close to the former Conway Stewart factory in Plymouth. Dartmoor was made famous by Conan Doyle’s ‘Hounds of the Baskervilles’ , and the Winston Dartmoor has something of the night about it too.
It’s not an ostentatious color; it’s more refined, understated but has an aura of mystery, and maybe for that reason has always been popular with pen enthusiasts around the world.
It has a slight taper to the barrel end and a gently rounded cap top and weighs in at a hefty 54 grams – it is definitely a heavyweight pen!
The Winston range has to be filled using a bottle of ink as it has a captive converter. This means the blind end of the barrel unscrews to reveal a gold-plated knurled top which is turned to fill the pen with ink.
The Winston Dartmoor is fitted with 9ct gold rings – a narrow ring on the barrel end, and a wider band at the nib section which is hall marked, while the cap features a pair of narrow gold rings for that extra touch of luxury.
The Conway Stewart Winston is the ideal choice if you prefer a large pen; one that stands out in a crowd, but which still stays true to the classic style and feel of a vintage Conway Stewart design.
Each pen is housed in a Conway Stewart black leather presentation box which also serves as a showcase pen stand for your desk.
