Sample unique Japanese papers with these curated Paper Tasting Sets from Yamamoto Paper. Each set contains 3 types of paper in 3 different sizes so you can try a variety of options without committing to a lot of pages. The paper is glue-bound at the top of the page and has a cardboard backing, making each style of paper into a handy notepad.
This set features 25 sheets of each of the following kinds of paper:
- Shikoku Tenrei (B7 size) - This is a modern arrangement of the royal coronation paper used in the enthronement ceremony of the Showa Emperor in 1928. Clusters of fiber, known as "Hana" are scattered in the pulp to give the paper an elegant touch.
- Nagomi Unryu (A6 size) - Unryu (Dragon Cloud) paper was developed in the 1920s in the Echizen area of Fukui prefecture. Cloud patterns are created by blending long strands of mulberry fiber into the pulp. In the case of Nagomi Unryu, Rayon fiber is used to give the paper an elegant shine.
- Kinkakuden (B6 size) - Made on the banks of the Nito river in Kochi prefecture, this is a paper popular with brush calligraphers and often used for copying Buddhist prayers. While the paper itself is made by a machine, all other steps including counting, cutting, and packaging are done by hand.
