Filling the Pen:

• To fill the pen, you simply twist the knob at the end of the barrel. This action moves the piston down the barrel, expelling any existing air or ink.
• Once at the bottom, submerge the nib into your ink bottle, then twist the knob in the opposite direction. This draws ink into the reservoir, thanks to the vacuum created by the upward moving piston.

Care and Maintenance -

Regular cleaning is essential to optimum performance with any fountain pen. How often should you clean? either when changing ink colors or if you have not used the pen in more than a few months. 

  To clean pull out the nib and feed and use a syringe to squirt clean room temp water inside the pen, while separately cleaning the nib and feed. Then reinsert the nib and feed-- they can be reinserted in any direction. Allow it to air dry on a towel or absorbent surface.

Are there limitations on the ink choices? TWSBI works well with any water based fountain pen ink. We find it to be an excellent choice for shimmer or sheening inks; A few of our favorite shimmers are Oster Hickory A Flame, Diamine Garland, or Journalize Hecate. Sheening inks in our pens right now include: Octopus Medusa, Lamy Violet Blackberry, and Vinta Blue Blood.
