Rising along the border of Tennessee and North Carolina, Thunderhead Mountain is crossed by the Appalachian Trail. On the western part of the summit, is the Rocky Top knob, a popular hiking destination and the inspiration for our newest Estie.
Tennessee orange daisies dot the landscape and the striations of the rocks glisten in stripes of gold, silver and orange ochres. These are the colors and textures that find their way into this limited edition Estie offering.
If you listen closely, the mountains and the trail also have stories to tell. This is a place of the rich folk tales and the sounds of folk music, the roots and melodies of which ultimately gave birth to country music, the soundtrack of Tennessee.
Want to talk true Tennessee pride? Look no further than the University of Tennessee’s beloved orange, chosen at the turn of the 19th century as the school’s official color and so specific that it has been assigned its own Pantone color.
Between the landscape and these treasured traditions, it’s fair to say that the colors of this place are a slice of Americana, just like the history of Esterbrook and the Estie itself.
It is only fitting that the special edition Estie Rocky Top is made using an exclusive Diamondcast material from McKenzie Penworks based on the Tennessean family home of Callie McKenzie. Rich swirls of Tennessee orange, silver, gold and white are layered and blended to catch the light and offer the depth of color that this material is known for.
The colors are a celebration of one of the most scenic sights in the American south, rich with the sites, history and music of the land. The pen is a manifestation of all of those things and the new stories and music it might write.
Available in traditional fountain size, Oversize fountain, and rollerball.
