Manganese was first isolated in 1774 by Johan Gahn. It is used for its various oxidation states as the colorant for commercial pigments. It is also a crucial component of steelmaking.

These fountain pen inks makeup a set of ‘simple’ colors, tasked with coloring the basic spectrum of pure colors.
