Good starter pen
I bought one of these in extra fine to have a pen for my backpack they could use standard cartridges/converters. The FC cartridge I first used in it had a small defect and cracked ...view moreso it took me a minute to really get a feel for it before I reviewed it because a cartridge with a cracked wall will lead to a miss working pen and a big mess that isn't the pens fault.
I got the extra fine nib... I would say it is just as fine if not more depending on the ink used the than it's Japanese counterparts which isn't something you can say about most western starter pens. The nib is very "springy" but isn't a flex nib. Right now I have an Edelstein Aquamarine cartridge in it and I'm having a hard time as a lefty telling if you're supposed to flex it a tiny bit to get more ink to flow or if it just likes really wet inks as Edelstein is by no means "dry" but there are many german inks like DeAtramentis or even Faber Castell's own that are just a little bit "Wetter". It has a soft comfortable grip that is not as shaped as a Safari or EGO-T so someone with a four finger grip should be able to use this comfortably with no issues. It is a smaller pen though meant for younger/school hands so people with large hands might find it uncomfortable for long periods of time. The soft grip makes up for that a lot but it's still about as thin of pen as I like to use
I like this pen but I'll have to play with it more with a different ink before I'd say I really like it or use it every day. For someone who is right handed with a normal or "counter-clockwise" this would be a great starter pen that wants a very fine line and uses standard cartridges/converters as an alternative to Lamy or Platinum.
I'm a lefty with a clockwise grip and once I figured out the right angle to hold it had no problems adjusting at all.
All in all a solid starter pen. I'll be checking out it's siblings the 2011 and may by more in the future with different nib sizes.

nice writer in a sweet color
As with my other Faber Castell fountain pens, it's a great performer both in start up and writing. This color, the turquoise with pale green dots, is a stunner. Grabs the eye. V...view moreery nice quality pen at this price point. Don't be afraid of the EF, either, if that is your usual European nib size. It's smooth, not scratchy. view less
