Neutral grey green - with some "dirt"!
I have three Kobe inks, all of them green, and all of them wonderful. #28 is lush deep green with a yellow undertone, #54 is very subtly not black whilst this #49 is, well, drab! T...view morehis was the hardest to commit to purchasing based on a sample, but has become the most used of all my inks. It's boring. It's not really "olive". There is a blue component in if a wash is applied, which I don't like at all (this in common with Tokiwa Matsu, which for me is far too "busy" an ink). . . . . but it's very nondescriptness makes it a great everyday writing and sketching ink - neutral enough that it won't demand anyone's attention (so you can write for pages and pages!), but subtly rewarding for those that notice. It has a great shading range and a lovely wet flow (all of my Kobe inks have this). The "drabness" provides a great backdrop for more "interesting" colors!
I never had an everyday writing ink before, preferring a weekly rotation, but this one slipped right in there!
p.s. by "dirt" I mean that although it tends grey, it has enough earthiness that it's neither cool nor warm. Hmmm, maybe that's what makes it so appealing? view less
