Iron gall fountain pen ink from KWZ, handmade in Poland.
PLEASE NOTE: leaving Iron Gall ink in an unused pen for a very long period of time could cause corrosion to occur in pens with stainless steel nibs.
Iron Gall inks should be stored in a cool and dark place to protect them from the negative effects of light on their stability.
Iron Gall inks should not be diluted with water from the tap – the water is rich in various salts and contains trace amounts of the compounds used for the decontamination of water (such as ozone, chlorine, etc.), those compounds will have negative effect on stability of ink. If you want to dilute Iron Gall ink, distilled, demineralized water or boiled water should be used.

Good alternative to Registrar's ink
This ink ends up looking the same nearly black color as diamine registrar's ink but looks a lot better to me before then, a brighter blue initially where the registrar's is more te...view moreal. It also dries a bit slower meaning I'm more likely to smear it. Good flow to it and nice shading before it dries. I don't expect it to become my favorite, I like Salix more. Still I'm glad to have a bottle of it. view less

Go-to ink
This is my favorite ink, for the color, the waterproofness, the sheen and the way it darkens from light navy, at first, to very dark blue after a few minutes, to black with blue ti...view morenges after a few days and solid black over the course of months. All those excellent properties do come with a few downsides, namely: it takes forever to dry, and you’ll want to clean your pen as thoroughly as possible, then do it again, before switching from iron gall to normal ink or vv. It can also precipitate out some solids if it dries out in the pen and gets too concentrated, or if it comes in contact with tap water or ammonia pen flush (try adding a little vitamin c powder, cheap packets available on Amazon, and dish soap to distilled water instead). But to me it’s worth it to have a dedicated pen for the stuff, and since it’s made by a knowledgeable chemist, it’s pretty safe, even if you use it in a steel-nibbed pen and you’re not diligent about flushing. view less

Very dark Blue-Black
I’ve been using this as an EDC ink in a couple of different pens with different nib sizes, and have been as pleased with it as I have with other KWZ inks. The color change happens...view more relatively quickly, and the final color is very dark blue, nearly black in most pens I've tried, although not quite as dark as Diamine 1864 (a non IG ink). In a Platinum Coarse Broad pen, the color dries to a bluer color than the other pens I’ve tried. I didn’t find it wet, as one of the other reviewers noted. I thought it slightly dry, but not very noticeable compared to many other “dry” inks, and no issues with flow or nib build-up for me. All in all, it delivered what I wanted, and is my go to blue-black ink now. view less

Nice color, very scented
I got this to use as waterproof ink, but although the color is pleasant, I am unable to use this ink due to its scent - it smells like some artificial vanilla, and the scent is so ...view morestrong I can smell it as I am writing. I couldn't stand it and flushed the ink out, but the smell was still lingering even after a few refills with different, unscented inks. Interesting but troublesome Ink
1st of all, this is a very interesting ink, it chances color from blue to black, so this is a perfect ink to be used in a clear pen. Not to mention, I just love the sweet smell the...view more ink has. I really hope that sniffing the ink dont give me any health issue.
However this ink is also a lubricated ink, it flow every easily, which give a pretty smooth writing experience. But because of that nature, this ink will not necessarily works with every pens. If you used it in a wet flowing pens like Pilot Metropolitan, it will tend to leak, especially when it's keep nib side down with a full fill.
This ink also dry up quite quickly so it's idle to be used on cheap paper, especially when use with a dry flowing pen like Lamy Vista, however if you use it on a dry flowing pen, the nib will dry up when kept nib side up for too long.
Also when used for long period of time, the side of the nib that is contact with the feed will develop some kind of black layer which most likely is just a layer of iron build up from the ink, but it can be clean up quite easily with a q-tip, so dont be alert when you see that during cleaning.
On related note, because this ink has particle of iron in it, there is always a risk of clogging the feed, but I been using this ink for 2 months without cleaning and it doesn't cause any noticeable flowing issue. So while the risk is there, it's probably nothing to worry about.
So yeah, if you get this ink, be prepare to do some experimentation and extra cleaning. view less
