Left handed nibs...
I'm leaving this review for any other lefties like me curious about if getting a left handed nib for your Lamy is worth it. And the short answer is... Yes.... especially if you're ...view morenew to fountain pens. Is it truly a "left handed nib" you ask? The short answer is... Sort of. I'm not sure if there is such a thing as a "left handed" or "right handed" nib or not but other than Lamy's super tough "A" nib on their beginner's school kid pen series I would say it is definitely helpful as you are starting out or new to fountain pens and can be more comfortable to write with even if you're an old pro... And I consider myself an amateur at best still learning. What Lamyv did here is make a nib... Some say it's a fine size and others say it's a medium, but in reality it's somewhere in the middle. But unlike their other nibs they changed the shape of the tip of the nib to something between an average medium and an oblique making it a little easier to "push" the pen across the paper instead of "dragging" like a right handed person would. Depending on your grip and which of the three hand placements you use you might have to turn the pen so the nib is facing sideways towards your right hand if you're not an "underwriter" or practice changing your grip so you can hold it the standard way facing up. But what I can say for sure is when you've figured which way you need to grip it you will be able to write Almost effortlessly gliding across the page with only letting the pens own weight hold it to the paper. You might have to press down ever do slightly once in awhile but for the price you can't beat the quality of the writing experience and Lamy made an effort here to cater to us South paws where few would even attempt and you simply can not beat the quality, especially for the price. I use a wide range of nib sizes in a few different pens but but for nightly journaling or just scribbling even on a clipboard in bed my Lamy Al-star with a left handed nib is my "go to" nib if choice. view less
