Decent Red, not what I had hoped
I ordered this ink as soon as I could. The ink swatch online looks like exactly the kind of red I had been looking for, however... When I received the bottle, the ink was much mo... view morere transparent than I had anticipated, it looked almost watered-down. After a few tests of my own, it's clear that this is another great ink from Robert Oster, but not what I had hoped for. It takes on an almost pinkish hue when written out of a pen. It dries a little darker, but generally it looks more like a Syrrah/Merlot wine-ish color than a crimson red that is hinted at with the name and the online ink swatch. It behaves excellently in the pen and on the paper. I have seen no shading or sheening, even when using it in a 1.1mm stub on Tomoe River, Rhodia, and Clairfontaine papers. The only test that revealed those qualities was dropping it directly on the paper and letting it pool as it dried.
Overall, a good ink, but not the "blood-red" I had been hoping for. Grading papers with "Rivers of Blood" has a certain appeal for me, unfortunately, this let me down despite the fact that I will continue to use it because it is a decent ink. view less
