The Man'yōshū is a collection of Japanese poems which features approximately 4,000 entries collected over 400 years--1,500 of those relate to plants and flowers. Also known as the Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves, the anthology is one of Japan's most revered poetic compilations and mentions more than 150 species of plants. The Manyo line of inks from Sailor pays homage to various plants and flowers that have been mentioned.

Platycodon grandiflorus, aka Kikyou in Japan, is an herbaceous perennial native to China, Korea, Japan, and Siberia. It features dark green leaves and blue flowers in late summer that have a balloon-like appearance before they fully bloom.
