The Man'yōshū is a collection of Japanese poems which features approximately 4,000 entries collected over 400 years--1,500 of those relate to plants and flowers. Also known as the Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves, the anthology is one of Japan's most revered poetic compilations and mentions more than 150 species of plants. The Manyo line of inks from Sailor pays homage to various plants and flowers that have been mentioned.

Kudzuaka Japanese Arrowroot, is a perennial vine known best for its ability to climb, coil, and grow extremely fast. Often treated as an invasive, noxious weed, kudzu roots contain an edible starch and the deep purple-red flowers can be made into a jelly that tastes similar to grape jelly. The plant is also good forage for grazing livestock and the vines have also been used as a weaving material.
