Comprised of paper specially selected for its excellent writing quality, the Yamamoto Ro-Biki notebook is good for many writing utensils including pencils, ballpoint pens, and fountain pens. The cover is made of wax-coated kraft paper which has a smooth texture designed to show crinkles and scratches as it is used, leaving a unique and personal imprint. The paper inside is 100% recycled, warm chiffon cream colored. The saddle-stitch binding is strong and allows for 360° of motion.
The painting on the cover is Dempsey and Firpo by American artist George Bellow. It depicts the the September 14, 1923 boxing match between American boxer Jack Dempsey and Argentine boxer Luis Firpo. The work has been in the collection of the Whitney Museum of Art since 1931.
