The go to archival grey.
Aesthetically, this is a fantastic grey. It shades well, but doesn't shade to black, so maintains a true grey throughout its range. It also behaves well on most paper. The only ink...view more that is similar is noodlers Lexington grey. Artist grey is slightly warmer, but I would both characterize them as true greys. Lexington gray has the unfortunate tendency to have it's blue pigment separate and feather out unattractively if the pen is remotely wet. This ink behaves well even when written with a wet pen, the slightly warmer tone is very attractive, and it's very permanent.
The only "downside" is that it is pigmented so it can take a little more work to clean out of a pen if left for a while, but that's also the source of its permanence. This ink is almost identical (as far as I can tell) to De-Atramentis Document Urban Grey. view less

Q: Is this a pigment based ink? If it dries in a pen is the pen ruined? I assume it is but I can't find the info anywhere. Thanks!

A: This ink is a combination of nano pigment suspended in a dye base and are fountain pen friendly. In addition, several pigmented inks are created just for fountain pens and completely safe for use in both vintage and modern pens.
